We love the swim-run events in Sydney, whether you race them or simply enjoy them for fitness and fun. Over the years, we’ve had a blast at the RunSwim Coogee events in 2022 and 2023, and also at other iconic events like Reidy’s Bondi and Manly Splash n Dash, the 3 Bay Challenge from Watson’s Bay, the 3 Points Challenge on the northern beaches, SwimRun Australia, and more.
The running and swimming community is thrilled that RunSwim Coogee is returning on Saturday, 2nd November! After the disappointment of postponing the event in May due to bad weather, let’s rally together to make this year’s event one for the books. Your participation is key to ensuring this fantastic event stays on the calendar, so let’s make it a day to remember! It’s a wonderful opportunity to enjoy a community event with family members (minimum age 13) and friends—let’s do it together for fun. I’m planning to participate with my son and friends this year, and I’d love to see you there.

Remember these key pointers as you prepare:
🏊♀️ Ocean Swim Training: Get some ocean swims under your belt before event day to build your fitness. Trial your gear (bathers, tri-suit, or tights) so you know what feels comfortable on race day. Some participants opt for a short-sleeve, short-leg wetsuit, which is great for both swimming and running. Don’t forget, you’ll need to wear the blue race singlet as well. Practice swimming in your shoes, and incorporate a few transitions in and out of the water, as you’ll need your shoes for the Clovelly and Gordons Bay swims. For the sand run down to the Coogee swim, practice kicking off your shoes—elastic laces can help, or just make sure your shoes aren’t too tight.
🥽 Goggles: Wear good, clear goggles to easily see your destination. Rinse them with some Johnson’s No Tears Baby Shampoo beforehand to prevent fogging. Ensure they’re snug enough to stay put when you enter the water.
🏔 Running Training: Incorporate some running into your training routine to build your fitness. If you plan to race, include speedwork like interval and fartlek sessions, and tackle some hills. If you’re local, try running the hills between Coogee and Clovelly along the beautiful coastal path.
You’re welcome to join Rejoov Runners for some running sessions at Centennial Park on Tuesday and Thursday at 6 am from the Homestead. Or, dive into our ocean swimming sessions at Coogee on Wednesday and Friday mornings at 6:15 am.
I’m looking forward to seeing you all on race day!
